Call for Thematic Block Proposals and Guest Editors

Stanovništvo is a peer-reviewed, diamond open-access journal dedicated to population studies and related public policy issues. Published by the Centre for Demographic Research of the Institute of Social Sciences in Belgrade, the journal has been publishing demographic research since 1963. While maintaining a strong regional focus on the former Yugoslavia, Stanovništvo also welcomes contributions that address broader international demographic challenges.

The journal invites proposals for thematic blocks to be published as part of its regular issues. We particularly encourage applications from scholars interested in serving as Guest Editors, who will curate a coherent set of contributions on a clearly defined topic within population studies. Serving as a Guest Editor represents an opportunity to:

  • contribute to a long-established and internationally indexed demographic journal,
  • shape scholarly discussion on a focused and policy-relevant topic,
  • engage directly with current research through the peer review process,
  • gain practical experience with manuscript evaluation and OJS editorial workflows,
  • strengthen familiarity with publication ethics and international scholarly publishing standards.

Proposals should outline the thematic focus, its scientific relevance, and potential contributors or areas of inquiry. All submitted manuscripts will undergo the journal’s standard double-blind peer review process.

Submission timeline

Calls for thematic blocks are issued twice a year:

  • 20 June
  • 20 December

Each call remains open for approximately six months, providing sufficient time for manuscript preparation and submission.

We invite researchers from Serbia, the region, and the international academic community to propose innovative and impactful thematic blocks that contribute to advancing demographic knowledge and public policy debates.
