Call for Associate Editors

Stanovništvo is a peer-reviewed, diamond open-access journal dedicated to population studies and related public policy issues. Published by the Centre for Demographic Research of the Institute of Social Sciences in Belgrade, the journal has been publishing demographic research since 1963. While maintaining a strong regional focus on the former Yugoslavia, it actively engages with contemporary international scholarship.

In order to further strengthen its thematic scope and editorial capacity, Stanovništvo invites applications for Associate Editors responsible for specific thematic sections of the journal. This role is particularly suited for researchers who wish to actively contribute to shaping scholarly debate in demography and related fields, while gaining hands-on editorial experience within an internationally indexed academic journal.

Role and Responsibilities

Associate Editors are responsible for managing the editorial process for regular submissions that are not part of thematic blocks, within their respective sections. Their responsibilities include:

  • conducting an initial assessment of submitted manuscripts to determine whether they meet basic scientific and scholarly standards,
  • evaluating whether a manuscript is suitable to be sent for peer review in its current form,
  • where appropriate, working with authors to improve the manuscript’s structure and clarity prior to peer review,
  • selecting appropriate reviewers with relevant expertise,
  • overseeing the peer review process in line with the journal’s standards,
  • providing a final evaluation of the manuscript and submitting a recommendation to the Editor-in-Chief regarding acceptance or rejection.

Associate Editors thus play a central role in maintaining the scientific quality and integrity of the journal.

Term of Appointment

Associate Editors are appointed for a period of two years, with the possibility of renewal based on mutual agreement and performance.
